Its responsibilities include waste collection, planning and building control, leisure, sport and tourism, licensing, car parking, and public safety, and collecting council tax on behalf of the County and Parish Councils. Milland Parish Council was formed when the new parish of Milland was created in 1972 from the northern parts of the old long parishes of Trotton, Chithurst, Iping and Stedham. The recreation field, which is a registered common and registered village green was dedicated in the 19th century as a place of exercise and recreation for the parish's inhabitants and operates as a charity with the parish council as Trustees. The Parish Council is a Custodian Trustee of the Milland Memorial Hall and a separate management committee acts as management trustees. The Parish Council currently meets as a full committee every two month, with planning committee meetings on average once a month plus any public meetings necessary to address specific applications. There are other subcommittees covering finance and environment. The council is also responsible for working with a wide spectrum of parish groups and representatives to develop the parish plan. |
